Things to Do While You're With Us
Although many of our guests are staying with while walking the length of Offa's Dyke, that is not compulsory. There are many other reasons to be here, and below is just a small selection. As we're still new to the area ourselves, we'll add to it as we find more.
Oswestry is our local town, and unlike many still has a great range of independent shops, and lots of lovely coffee shops. As we try and try them all, we will add them to our social media.
As we've said, many of our guests are walking the full Offa's Dyke Long Distance Path (ODP). But you don't need to do the full 177 miles - in fact as soon as you walk out the door here you are on the path, and you don't need to go far to see evidence of it - just up the hill towards Trefonen.
One of our favourite places, and only ten minutes away. There is over 60 acres to wander around and see the most amazing sculptures, as well as a cafe with enormous portions and shopping and more on site. We are often able to give our guests free entry tickets, so please ask us if you want to go.
Even if you don't fancy doing the ODP, there are plenty of walks from the house or a short distance by car. We can set you off with clear instructions, including one of our OS maps, and a packed lunch to explore the countryside.
There are many tracks that you can explore in Candy Woods and footpaths through the surrounding fields. We have prepared some printed guides of our favourite walks from the house to help you, including through the woods to the Old Racecourse and past the ruins of Llanforda House. .
If you want to go a bit further afield here are a few links that offer a variety of walks:

The Trefonen Hill Walk - run since 1990, this is a weekend of walks and over events, celebrating the local area while raising money, and with a chance to walk routes not usually open to the public.
We are delighted to partner in 2025 with the Whittington Music Festival. The lovely village of Whittington is only a 15 minute drive from us, and this festival has something for everyone, with a mix of well-loved classics combined with new pieces, played by both familiar senior musicians and rising stars.
